I love to collect stuff. I love Pins. I love Disney Pins. How happy am I? My wife and kids think I am crazy but there you go. I collect Disney Pins that have a Photo of Walt on them. You have to choose a category or go bankrupt. I also collect Pins about French Quarter and Riverside and there pervious names. Oh and Light-up Pins. Ebay is not a bad place to buy from. One must take ones time though. I have bought pins for under cost at WDW and that included shipping. I have over paid for pins I really wanted too. But I did it knowingly. Matt want to pick some up for me when you go for mousefest? I wouldn't if I were you won't be able to stop. I collect Masonic Pins too but they tend to be free. Except for the ones I buy on Ebay. Maybe my wife and kids are right.

I Just Don't Get It!

Maybe someone out there can help me understand pin trading. Maybe I just don't have the pin trading gene.

Here are my Top 7 levels of Disney Addiction:
1. Casual Park Attendee
2. Disney Fan
3. Disney Enthusiast
4. Disney Geek
5. Super Disney Nerd (most of us here)
6. Pin Traders
7. Mike Scopa

I get baseball cards, there are a set number of players and a set number of brands, so you could actually collect a whole set. There are only so many countries and sponsors at the olympics, so I could see collecting a set.

I know that I don't know much about Disney Pin Trading, but it seems to me that there is no rhyme nor reason to the issuing of Disney pins. I admit that I really have nothing to back that up only my perception. It seems that 50,000 pins in 7 years is a bit excessive and Disney is just looking for the money. But obviously people are buying them.

So if anyone could shed some light on this, I really would appreciate it. I was hoping that this episode would clear some things up for me, and it did answer some questions, but I still don't get it.

I had to do a double take when I heard the intro to this show yesterday...
considering it was Monday, Nov. 27. Apparently Matt thought it was *Friday* :-
P

I have never been big on Disney pins either... but for some reason I feel oddly
compelled to buy a Smee pin now.
Yay!

I am not a "trader" and not even considered a "mega" collector, but I do have a small amount of pins. I really only started buying earlier this year, although I do have some older Disney pins from the '90's. I was very excited to hear this episode because I had been thinking about writing in asking about the history of Disney Pin Trading, so this was a big surprise! I am definately going to check out the website in the show notes - I am looking for a certain Splash Mountain pin (lol, not a "Thunder Mountain" pin). Thanks so much for the show!

Don't forget, if you're going to the Mege Mouse Meet at Mousefest next weekend, there will be plenty of pins to grab up at the WDW Today table.

I personally want the new Scopa Towers Pin

Pin Karma
Authored by: pschnebs on Tuesday, November 28 2006 @ 07:40 PM CST
About the only thing that wasn't discussed in this discussion was what Scoop Sanderson (the streemosphere character in the MK who does talks on the basics of pin trading) calls "pin karma". Basically what this entails is that you shouldn't fret about pins that you trade being worth more or less than what you're trading for, because eventually you'll get a pin that you'll really want in return for your generosity.

Conversely, if you're a freakin' jerk who cheats a little kid out of a really valuable pin by giving him a Disney's Magical Express or a Mr. Smee, watch out, because your selfishness will someday come back to haunt you in your pin trading. Consider yourself forewarned, aspiring pin sharks...

I agree with everything about the $50 cookie. We haven't been to the MVMCP but we have been to MNSSHP twice and felt we were being taken advantage of this year when they took away the complimentary photo. Come on, a family of four will get what, maybe three photos, one for the family and one for each of two sets of grand-parents. It's not like everybody that paid $48 got one. Not to mention all WDW gets all the candy they hand out for free! And as for the extra hours/hour between day and hard ticket event, they charge the day visitors no less for that day than they do the days that the park stays open longer. Yes they miss out on one hour of gift shop sales if they clear the park between day and hard ticket events, but they would have better customer satisfaction.

It makes me think Michael Isner might not have been so bad after all.
