As seen at Borders Books

They had a nice WDW display at Borders Books here in Southern California,
which is really odd as I was 14 miles from Disneyland and they had no
Disneyland display. But the point is that they got the WDW display correct!

I can’t believe you have Polynesian questions and did not have me on!!!

Any way, great show as always and here is my advice. For the one staying 15 nights and wanting to try the Polynesian or a Moderate I think I would have actually have them split the stay and if they wanted to save on a Deluxe do the AKL or maybe WL. Not that the Polynesian would not be nice to try but I think the other resorts are a good mix also and always save the Deluxe for the end of the trip.

As far as the reports of bad service at the Polynesian there are still mixed reviews on experiences and they are from one end of the spectrum to the other. I looked for issues when I was there a few weeks ago and the only issue I had was housekeeping. Nothing bad and they did a good job but a few days they were very late in doing the room. I did not encounter any other issues but some reports from the same time I was there were mentioning some bad experiences at check in. Now we all know that every resort is going to have legitimate complaints and I do see two positive signs at the Polynesian. One is that complaints are decreasing and great experiences (including many magical moments like upgrades and above and beyond service in some cases) are increasing quite a bit over the last few months. Also there have been some key management changes and I believe that the people in place are watching closely, training the CMs better and taking action when needed to correct problems. Along with all the great new things at the resort I am seeing an improvement over all the times I have visited. Maybe if and when I come on to talk about Tikifest we can go over some of the changes for the better and issues that still need to be addressed. I know a lot of my readers would love to hear about them.

PO-R Boats
Authored by: AllanADale on Friday, December 22 2006 @ 08:20 AM CST
I've stayed at PO-R three times, and each time have used the boats to get to DD. They are quite relaxing, and have some great skippers. An example:

Once, my then-girlfriend (we're married now) and I were on a short trip for her birthday in mid-November. It was a chilly night, and there weren't many people set to ride the boat. Before we took off the skipper ducked into the nearby boat house and came back with hot chocolate for everyone (the powdered stuff, but still). He then put on his own personal Disney Mix of quiet, more serene WDW songs. It was a wonderful trip down the Sassagoula.

Anyway, the boats are an efficient way to GET to DD, but don't plan to ride them back to PO-R/FQ, especially if you're going to PI. For one, they stop at 11 (as mentioned in the podcast). For another, the boats stop at the marketplace side of the island, so it's a long walk from PI or West Side back to the boats.

All that said -- next time we go, no matter where we stay, we're taking a cab back from PI. The last two times bus service has been slow at best, and abysmal at worst. It's worth the 10-15 bucks to me to get home safely and not wait 20 minutes for a bus at 1 AM.

Wooo! I got my question answered! Thanks for the replies--we ended up getting the 80's which was something of a hike from the main building, but usually we drove over there so it wasn't too bad. I think next time we'll ask for the 70's.

For Mousefest we stayed at POFQ which was almost shockingly small in comparison--less than 5 minutes walk from the main buidling.

I would agree that the wing buildings at the Contemporary are a poor value--the convenience of the monorail is mitigated by the long walk it takes to get to them from the distant buildings, and the theming is such that I would never have even guessed I was in WDW from the interior.

If you want to pick up your own bags and take Magical Express, do not put the tags mailed to you on your bags. If you put the tags on, the bags won't make the baggage claim.
