I just wanted to say thanks for the advice about Priceline. We are arriving a day earlier than we had originally planned, so I thought I'd give it a shot at one of the non-Disney hotels. (Yes, I know, I'm a blasphemer! We are staying at Port Orleans French Quarter the rest of the trip.) I thought I would lowball it but they took my first bid at $40. Ends up this one is at the Holiday Inn which is usually about $76 a night, so that's almost half-off!

Ha. Funny to think that Priceline initially started out as only selling last-minute airfare, and now I don't know anyone who would use them for air.

Wow, that Magic Meets seems like forever ago. In retrospect, I should have Pricelined a car for that trip as well, since I think cab fare to Hershey Park was like $80.

One thing to be aware of is when booking through Priceline, the reservation is for 2 adults max, and thus they do not guarantee 2 beds or specific accommodations. We had a tough time when book NYC with my wife and I and the 2 kids. No hotels could guarantee 2 beds, and we needed 2 for sure. After speaking tot he hotel and Priceline customer service, I was able to negotiate a refund, but it took 2 hours on the phone and calling back and forth, having the hotel fax a form, etc.... They said they "never" refund.

So...I would recommend calling the hotel first and verifying their capacity for the dates you are booking and specifically asking, "do you have many rooms open with ___________________" whatever amenity/bedding, etc. options you would like. This is a good gauge of what is open, as Priceline clearly states any requests for room changes, specific amenities are at the discretion of the hotel.
