Wonders of Life

I agree with the panel that the lack of updates hurt the pavilion. Maybe I'm looking at this from a 2011 angle and my thoughts would be different if it was 1995 but while the Wonders of Life Pavilion in concept sounds amazing to me, the attractions themselves sound meh. Cranium Command sounded like a good, funny movie but probably wouldn't be a huge draw. Ditto with The Making of Me (this movie was probably controversial too). Body Wars was the headliner but to me Back to the Future at Universal made the Disney simulators look inferior in comparison as the screen on the Disney simulators doesn't surround you.

I'm surprised that all of you IT people don't have the DST dates memorized. A few years ago they extended DST to be in effect from the second weekend in March to the first weekend in November, necessitating changes to all kinds of computer software.

For reference, here's a list of future dates.

Epcot Monorail Previews

I lived in Florida from 1979 - 1986. Leading up to the opening of Epcot it October of 1982, Florida residents could ride the monorail to watch the construction progress. Like other "soft opening" activities, a few non-residents were selected to ride as well. I rode it often! I was living in Delray Beach until 1983 when I moved up to the Orlando area, and got to spend a lot of time at EPCOT Center until I moved to NJ in 1986. If the Challenger accident hadn't happened, I'd probably still be living down there.

I really miss World of Motion. I rode that much more than I ride Test Track. I like Test Track, I just really enjoyed the whimsey of the World of Motion I still think that the original EPCOT dark rides were among the best Disney darkrides ever: Horizons, World of Motion, and Journey into Imagination. (And, yes, I know Horizons wasn't there on day one, but opened on the first anniversary of EPCOT.)

I have a few souvenir video programs from the 80s and 90s that my parents used to buy us to help hold us over until the next trip. When I was looking through them the other day to lend to some friends who are taking their kids to Disney for the first time, I realized that the Epcot ones are completely useless for them because literally NOTHING is the same as it was when my video was made. The children on this video enjoy the Living Seas sans Nemo, Universe of Energy without Bill Nye/Ellen, Wonders of Life, World of Motion, Kitchen Kabaret, a live person on Listen to the Land, and Figment WITH Dreamfinder. It's crazy how literally every attraction in Future World has been altered from its original state.

On another note, thanks to the end of Wonders of Life, I will someday have to find a way to tell my future children about the birds and the bees since they can't learn from Martin Short like my sister and I did. Bummer.

I don't remember any of that. All I remember is after Epcot opened my parents dumped me with my grand mother to hang out at the pool while they when to Epcot...I'm still sore over that.

Loved Horizons and Cranium Command! Where do you think you are?! Disney World?!

While I still wish they were around, I do have to say thinking about those rides definitely brings back childhood memories. Its hard for me to remember riding CoP when I was a kid because I ride it all the time now. But I will always remember seeing Horizons through my eyes as a 10 year old. Silver lining perhaps?
