The Song of the South was based on the Uncle Remus books by Joel Chandler Harris. They are a must for fans of Splash Mountain and, being out of copyright, are free to download on the Kindle.

If you had to choose one, read The Tar Baby, which details Brer Rabbit's capture and release: http://americanfolklore.net/folklore/..._baby.html

Basically, he was flung into the patch and ran away quickly.

Agreed that you should start with the Tar Baby.

The reason Brer Rabbit wanted to be thrown into the brer patch was because that's where he was "born and raised" so brer patches don't bother rabbits. Rabbit cleverly tricked Brer Fox by saying that was the only place he didn't want to be thrown, knowing full well Brer Fox would throw him there.

As you fly down the water drop you are surrounded by brers, so it symbolizes Brer Rabbit being thrown by Brer Fox. It's done via a water flume only because that is the vehicle in which you take your journey through the South.

The other disadvantage to getting stuck in the park overnight: no fast passes the next day.

Everyone else has posted about Brer Rabbit having been raised in a briar patch, hence he wanted to be thrown into somewhere he considered as home, so won't cover that again.

But I will mention that being diverted anti-clockwise via Mexico/Canada in a closed Epcot would actually have been a lot quicker to get from Norway to the International Gateway rather than going round clockwise via America - about 700 yards walk vs 1100 yards.

And Newell is right, carrying a spare battery for Android is a real plus, they're so slim they slip into my wallet and I just pop it into the phone for another 8+ hours heavy use if I need it. Needed it three or four times during our last trip (I know, I know, I shouldn't be using my phone so much!). But if anyone has a cheap Verizon 4G pre-pay mi-fi that they want to get rid of, please let me know as AT&T really sucks (but my phone, being a UK one, is GSM rather than CDMA for voice calls so I can't just use a Verizon SIM).
