Really enjoyed this episode as we had a reservation at the Polynesian for 6/25 - 6/29 of this year, so I will tell you of our experience this past week. I was OK with the construction, etc. until it was rumored they were taking out the Waterfalls, check-in desk, etc. in the Great Ceremonial House. To me, the sound of that waterfall and the smell of the water are as Disney as your first sighting of the welcome signs driving in, and literally take me back thirty years to stays there with my parents. Needless to say, this upset me a good bit; I can live with construction sounds and a little disruption, but I will not pay a premium to stay somewhere that's unfamiliar and boarded up (I was being charged full rate for the room as well, which I was not happy about at all). So I called the Main Reservation Line and expressed my concern about the situation, and asked for solutions. The Cast Member was very helpful and understanding, not only canceling my reservation for me, but opening a new reservation at the Grand Floridian at the advertised 35% off. This discount allowed me to add two additional days at the Grand (days that I had reservations at a Value for, prior to checking into the Poly) and after canceling *that* reservation as well (also at no discount rate) it was less than a few dollars more to go from two nights at a Value (Pop) and four nights at the Poly to SIX nights at the Grand Floridian for the same amount of money (they even kicked in Park Hoppers for us!). So to answer the question you guys poised this am "Will Disney work with people staying at the resort?" the answer is an enthusiastic "Yes", and in a very understanding way.
