Agree that getting a Disney-centric travel agent who knows all the latest deals and bargains is number 1.

Number 2 is bigger than just fast pass plus. You MUST create the My Disney Experience account for everyone going as soon as possible. There is so much tweaking needed to get it right that delaying for any reason is wrong. You don't need resort reservations or tickets to create your MDE account. You will find out that Disney searches all it's databases for Disney, ABC, ESPN and all subgroups and tries to make only one account for you. Because people have signed up on various web sites for many years and used various real names and nicknames, email addresses, street addresses, phone numbers, etc. that getting one and only one MDE account can be time consuming. After you get the MDE account right, you can then learn how to arrange fast passes, get dinner reservations and create an itinerary for your trip.

Number 3, for me, is getting to know where everything is at Walt Disney World through maps, satellite or air photos, web sites and fan groups. Don't be the idiot who thinks Universal is a part of WDW, or that the monorail goes to all 4 theme parks.
