For Barry from Knoxville:

From personal experience, anything, be it MagicBand, park ticket or room key card, that appears on the MagicBands & Cards screen of your My Disney Experience account (and is active) will work for park admission and opening the door to your room. I have not tried charging recently, but did use my RFID-equipped Annual Pass to do so last year.

The only problem I have encountered when using a card instead of a MagicBand is that many CMs expect to see a MagicBand and initially refuse to accept your card, especially for EMH and resort entry at the guard shacks. Ask them politely to scan it and they will see that the information is the same as would appear with a MagicBand. In my opinion, this is a training issue; so much emphasis is put on the new MagicBands that people don't know that cards have the same features.

Why don't I use a MagicBand? Personal preference; I just don't like to wear things on my wrists.

There was a question about the quickest way to the Mine Train at rope drop, and the answer was 'straight through the castle.' Speaking from experience, that is neither the quickest nor safest way to get there, now that they've changed the rope drop procedure.

Remember, back in May they changed the procedure so that now they lead the crowd up Main Street behind a rope. The vast, vast majority of people going that way are trying to get to Anna & Elsa. If you stay behind that rope, they'll lead everybody through the castle, like a giant Play Doh Fun Factory of humanity. Then you'll go around the left side of the Carousel and around it to the standby A&E line. Not only will that put you behind the people who went a different route to get to the Mine Train standby line, but it is also very dangerous. I've taken double-digit WDW trips and seen all the bad rope drop stampedes: Soarin, Toy Story Mania, you name it. Taking everybody through the castle was by far the worst. I'm a big guy, and there was a time or 2 I was genuinely scared for my safety. If I'd tripped and fallen, I would've been trampled.

The quicker (and safer) way to get to the Mine Train is to peel off before the castle and take the bridge to the right of the castle. When you cross over you'll see the Mad Tea Party. Bear to the left and you'll be at the Mine Train queue.
